The Sustainable Milton Green Student Leadership Award was created in 2016 to acknowledge Milton High School seniors with a passion for bettering the earth's environmental health; who take initiative and are action-oriented toward promoting community awareness,education and solutions; and who motivate and engage peers and adults in the school and local community creatively and collaboratively. These students keep the mission statement of Sustainable Milton in mind on a daily basis.
Mission: Sustainable Milton aims to create a community that acts to preserve our ecosystem as a whole. We raise awareness, educate and motivate residents, town government and businesses to reduce waste of all forms and create a healthy, vibrant future for all.
In 2019 Sustainable Milton decided to give awards to three graduating students. At the ceremony on May 28 each received a monetary award and a book. Eliza O'Donnell who plans to attend St. Lawrence University was given the book Stolen Harvest: the Hijacking of the Global Food Supply by Vandana Shiva. Isabel Caridad Smith who plans to attend Fordham University was given the book Lentil Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America by Liz Carlisle. And Molly Baker was given the book Losing Earth: A Recent History by Nathaniel Rich, and plans to attend the University of Vermont. These students graduated on June 2, 2019 and Sustainable Milton wishes them all the best.
The 2018 Sustainable Milton Green Student Leadership Award went to Nicholas Ruiz. He received a check and Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly book and DVD.
Maia Frances Adley received the Sustainable Milton Green Student Leadership Award in 2017. The monetary gift and a book, The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson.
The two winners of the 2016 Sustainable Milton Green Student Leadership Award were Chis Jean Baptiste and Alexis Von Metzsch Belash. Each received a monetary gift and a book. Ms. Belash was given the book World Hunger:10 Myths by Francis Moore Lappe and Joseph Collins, 2015; and Mr. JeanBaptiste received the book Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, 2015.
